Technician Boot Camp Program

What is the Technician Boot Camp Program?

Yancey's Technician Boom Camp is an accelerated four to six month program, working with an intact team of four total trainees with one instructor/lead man.

Why Should I Consider the Technician Boot Camp Program?

The program will build your technical confidence through a comprehensive program of academic and hands on training.  You will gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals of how things work, processes and procedures and safety requirements.  A comprehensive tool set / tool box will be provided for use during the apprenticeship.  Upon successful completion of the program, and two additional years of employment as a technician, the tools and tool box become yours!  All entry level Trainees earn a base wage of $14.00 per hour.     

Is the Technician Boot Camp Program Right for Me? 

You may have experience from high school automotive classes, military training, college or trade school diesel technician classes or you may have the mechanical aptitude and great work ethic that is required.  All candidates that have mechanical aptitude, a great work ethic and team mentality are welcome to apply! No previous industry experience is required.      

What Are the Requirements?

18 years of age or older

Must have high school diploma or equivalent

Caterpillar ThinkBIG Program

Are you debating what you will do after high-school? Have you graduated but not yet found your dream career? Have you always been the mechanical type, fixing things and tearing things apart to see how they work? Do you look at Heavy Equipment, Power Generators or Industrial Engines and just know you would love to learn how to diagnose and repair it? You want to go to college, but you don’t want to spend all your time in the classroom, you would rather get right into working and doing something you love. If you answered ‘Yes’ to these questions, it's time you look into the Caterpillar ThinkBIG Program.     

What is the Caterpillar ThinkBIG Program?

The Caterpillar ThinkBIG program is a 2-year program that teaches you how to service Cat equipment using cutting-edge diagnostic and maintenance systems, advanced technologies and high-tech tools. ThinkBIG combines classroom work with hands-on learning in the field and in state-of-the-art labs, so students see technologies in real-world applications—solving problems and helping Caterpillar customers get their jobs done. 

ThinkBIG – Heavy Equipment is a two year specialized program for those technically minded, hands on individuals with a desire to start a career as heavy equipment technician at Yancey Bros. Co. – The Nation’s Oldest Caterpillar Dealership. ThinkBIG students alternate every eight weeks between South Georgia Technical College and their sponsoring Yancey Bros. Co. branch, where they put their learning into practice in paid internships. Students learn how to work with Diesel, Electronics and Hydraulics in the classroom and then get the opportunity to put those new found skills to work in a real working environment. Upon graduating, students earn an Associate Degree in Applied Technology, have two years of experience with Yancey Bros Co and could have the opportunity to immediately transfer over as a full time employee, working in the field of their dreams.    

ThinkBIG – Power Generation is a two year specialized program for those technically and electronically minded, hands on individuals with a desire to start a career as Power Generation technician at Yancey Bros. Co. – The Nation’s Oldest Caterpillar Dealership. ThinkBIG students alternate every eight weeks between South Georgia Technical College and their sponsoring Yancey Bros. Co. branch, where they put their learning into practice in paid internships. Is the Caterpillar ThinkBIG Program Right for Me? 

A successful candidate would have the following attributes:

The desire or skill to work with mechanical concepts and enjoy "hands-on" challenging work in a fast paced work environment. 

Good work habits - achieving acceptable grades and attendance in High School.

Have a good moral foundation.

A typical candidate may have completed "mechanical skill based" classes such as Automotive while in High School, and would have had extra-curricular activities such as sports, clubs, working on cars/trucks/ATV's/motorcycles or a part-time job. Typical candidates would have experience working with hand tools and would know that they enjoy working with their hands and taking apart and properly putting things back together.

ThinkBIG Power candidates would have a desire to work with electricity and power generation.

What Are the Requirements?

To be considered for the program, each candidate will go through a face to face interview, complete job specific testing and be given a tour of our Yancey Bros. Co. facility. 



The Think BIG program has a limited number of spots each year and therefore students must gain a ‘sponsorship’ from one of the participating Caterpillar Dealers to attend. We will notify the candidates of our final choices prior to the school year starting in August. 



Along with being chosen to represent Yancey Bros Co as a student in the program, you will also be required to meet the qualifications and be accepted into the South Georgia Technical College program. 



Payment for the college courses will be the sole responsibility of the student. The program does qualify for the HOPE Grant.

Technician Trainee Program

What is the Technician Trainee Program?

During the program you will be paired with an experienced Diesel Technician and rotate into different areas of our operation.  Each rotation is approximately 60 – 90 days where you will assist with the work being done. Depending on your experience level when starting the program, you will go through 3 rotations which occur in our shops and in some cases on customer job sites. 



This will allow a great deal of on the job training while you also learn about our procedures and culture.

Upon completion of your first rotation, your skills will be evaluated and technical training classes (Engines, Hydraulics, Electrical, etc.) will be determined based on your needs.  Training classes take place at our headquarters in Austell, GA.  



After your first rotation, a comprehensive tool set / tool box will be provided for use and after a period of time the tools and tool box are yours to keep!

Why Should I Consider the Technician Trainee Program? 

All entry level Trainees earn a base wage of $14.00 per hour. Additional experience and skills may warrant a higher base wage.  You will gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals, of how things work and begin to create an understanding of logical troubleshooting and the methodology of performing timely and correct repairs. The program will build your technical confidence through a comprehensive program of hands-on and academic orientated training, combined with real-time assessments in actual shop and work settings.  This will provide experience, while you work.

Is the Technician Trainee Program Right for Me?
